If you’re looking to refresh your face, the answer might be your own blood. Rejuva medical director and facial plastic surgeon Dr. Kian Karimi joined The Doctors yesterday with Adrienne, who is hoping to freshen up her look.

Dr. Karimi will be using platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) from Adrienne’s own blood, which has no additives and nothing artificial. “It forms a clot, just like a filler after about 10 minutes,” he says. Dr. Karimi tells The Doctors this procedure is better than a synthetic because fibrin contains a high concentration of platelets, which form the scaffolding to add volume and will provide some stem cells to the injection area.

He also shares that using your own body’s blood products can minimize adverse reactions that can be obtained from synthetic fillers. The procedure is recommended to be performed three to five times, spaced one month apart and results may last for up to one year for volumization and beyond for improved skin quality and texture. The cost of these types of injections is, on average, from $500 to $1500. This would cover commonly treated areas such as eye circles and/or deflated cheeks. If larger areas or multiple areas are performed, the cost of the procedure may be significantly more depending on the volume of PRF required.
