The goal with lip augmentation is to look subtly natural and be more harmonious with the overall facial appearance.

What is Lip Augmentation ?

Lip augmentation is a specialized procedure in which volume is added to thin lips to soften and reshape them and enhance the face using lip implants or dermal fillers injected into the lips. This procedure is also performed to reduce the size of larger lips so that they are balanced on the face. The goal with lip augmentation is to look subtly natural and come more in line with the other parts of the face.

Benefits

Lip augmentation plumps the lips to create a softer smile and offers the following benefits:

  • Lessens the appearance of fine lines around the mouth
  • Minimal downtime
  • Long-lasting results
  • Improved self-image
  • Boosts self-esteem

VARIATIONS OF PROCEDURE & TECHNIQUE

Lip augmentation is performed using various methods:

  • Dermal fillers
  • Fat transfer
  • Lip implants

What To Expect After

The recovery with lip augmentation depends on the method used to complete the procedure. Injectable fillers are the least invasive and require no downtime. There may be some slight swelling or redness immediately following the injections, but that resolves itself within a day. Dermal fillers last several months.

Fat transfers are slightly more involved and do require some recovery. This pertains more to recovering from the liposuction for the fat transfer. There is often a little redness and swelling after the treatments that diminishes within a few days. With this method, the results last for up to three years.

With lip implants, there is more downtime since the procedure is more invasive and requires stitches. The recovery may take up to two weeks. After a week to 10 days, the external stitches are removed while the stitches inside the mouth dissolve. Lips may feel numb during the healing process and a little stiff for a few months. Lip implants are a permanent solution to maintaining fuller lips.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR Lip augmentation?

A: Lip augmentation is ideal for anyone with naturally thin lips or lips that have begun to thin with age. Lip augmentation adds volume and softens the lips to create a brighter smile.

Q: HOW DO I PREPARE FOR lip augmentation?

A: With lip augmentation, it is very important to stop smoking as that affects the outcome of this treatment.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE APPOINTMENT?

A: Facelift procedures have been perfected and have become less invasive over the past few years. Once the anesthesia has been administered, incisions are made typically around the hairline and around the ears. The extent of the incisions depends on the degree of work to be done. At that point, fat is sculpted, if necessary, to add volume and contour to the face then the skin is tightened, and the incisions are closed. Excess skin is removed, and the incisions are dressed and bandaged.

Q: HOW LONG DOES A Lip augmentation PROCEDURE TAKE?

A: Lip augmentation takes up to an hour depending on the type of lip augmentation that is performed.

Q: WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?

A: The results from lip augmentation are immediately visible. Any swelling, bruising or redness diminishes within a few days. With lip implants, the results take more time as the incisions must heal before swelling and bruising subside.

Q: WHAT IS THE COST OF lip augmentation?

A: The cost of lip augmentation depends on the method used to complete this procedure as well as whether other treatments are performed at the same time. During your consultation with Dr. Kian will review your costs along with our payment options including financing through CareCredit®.

Q: WILL I HAVE SCARS AFTER?

A: With fillers and fat transfer, there are no scars. Lip implants may leave tiny scars as the incisions heal, but they are not very noticeable and greatly diminish or go away. If they are at all visible, they can easily be covered with makeup.
